I live in the Phoenix area and I have seen these vehicles do make maneuvers more ridiculous things than any confused tourist. I give Waymos a wider berth than anything else on the road.
The hardware's probably all there to be able to automatically determine who's at fault, issue a citation if applicable, pay any fines, settle with the insurance companies, get the vehicles to the repair garage, learn from the experience and change behavior so it happens less often in the future.
Somebody's surely been working on this the whole time, right?

Robo taxis went wrong? I thought AI was incredibly smart? They must have intended to screw up.

That's strange. You'd expect them to at least know where the other Waymos are.
