Learning AI? The Real Hurdle Isn't Complexity, It's Jargon

In order to get regular updates in the AI space, I rely on newsletters like The Rundown AI and The Neuron. There's a whole lot of YouTube Channels that I'm subscribed to in order to just keep up with this rapidly changing landscape.

But hey, I'm not complaining because I enjoy learning about the field.

Though, what I have observed is that in order to digest these resources, you still need some level of basic knowledge—an understanding of the underlying concepts or even just familiarity with the terminology used.

These guides, videos blogs or newsletters put a lot of onus on the reader to understand their posts and generally roll with the assumption that the reader is AI savvy and is familiar with the jargon. This creates a gap for those who are curious but may not have the foundational knowledge of what AI is or what concepts like LLMs entail.

The thing is majority of the world's population don't even know what exactly AI is, or what LLMs are. In fact, the recurring challenge with me was often being stopped in the middle of a read by a word I didn't quite get, and that's saying a lot considering I have pursued an Integrated Master's in the damn field.

That led me to realize that if I, being at least halfway decent in this subject, still face this challenge, then imagine the pain of for those without a tech or AI background. That's what led me to start AI Lingo Daily (https://ailingodaily.kit.com/).

So instead of having to google every word you come across the newsletter and then have some boring ass explanation or having to prompt ChatGPT every time to make it interesting, my newsletter does that for you.

The idea behind AI Lingo Daily is simple: to provide clear, concise definitions of AI terms in a way that's both engaging and accessible so that readers don't have to hunt down definitions. It's sent 3 times a week (Mon, Wed, Fri).

(Why AI Lingo "Daily"? You might want to subscribe to my newsletter to know the answer to this question, it's on the Thank You page after you subscribe.)

Each issue distills a new AI word or concept into a brief, digestible format (pun intended, you'll know once you read the first issue)-- making it ideal for not only those who are already seasoned but also as an introductory guide for those who are just starting to explore the world of AI.

While it stands proudly on its own, AI Lingo Daily pairs perfectly with more advanced newsletters. It’s the perfect starting point to build a solid understanding before diving deeper into the AI world.

The aim here isn’t to deliver the same information as other newsletters, but to offer a solution. No fluff, No jargon. Rather than scribbling down complex AI jargon or presenting generic definitions, I thought of turning the experience into something a bit more accessible, with a twist that resonates: dessert analogies.

Imagine understanding 'Neural Networks' as layers of a delicious cake, each layer contributing to the final flavor—or in AI, the final output.

With AI Lingo Daily, I want to break the jargon. I want to offer explanations that make sense without extra effort, not just for newcomers to AI but also for anyone who’s reading AI content regularly but still feels bogged down by cramming technical terms.

Inspiration for this project comes from sources like Word Daily, which sends out new words on a regular basis, and The Neuron, known for its cat-themed presentation.

The playful dessert theme, for instance, was born on a day when I was craving a pastry.

This initiative is not about oversimplification or dumbing down the subject; rather, it’s about removing unnecessary friction from the learning process. By presenting AI language in a fun and accessible manner, it becomes easier for anyone—regardless of their background—to start engaging with the field.
