If someone or a family member is suffering from cancer, and is struggling with information overload, they are welcome to use my free software such as https://github.com/impredicative/newssurvey to discover information that could potentially be of use to them. In cancer, information can save lives. Be sure to include in the prompt something like: "Include everything that can help, however slim the chances might be." Note that although the software is free, there are upstream AI API costs.

We had small evidence of this. My mother's oncologist just shrugged and said some people get old. She was 67 when she passed (years ago). We think they missed a tumor in her brain, but we blame ourselves for not advocating hard enough.

What is the definition of “knowledge growth” here?

  • andrewjl 2 days ago

    > I confirm that oncology knowledge has grown dramatically. The total length of NCCN Guidelines, a “complete library” of cancer guidelines (NCCN, 2023b), has grown from 1,129 pages in 2002 to 5,825 pages in 2020. This growth in guideline length appears closely tied to growth in the scientific literature about how to manage cancer. This growth in guideline length also occurs in a period with large increases in the number of available therapies: the total number of approved cancer drugs rose from 90 in 2002 to 243 in 2020.
